Usually, the error message "Unfortunately Messages has stopped" appears on the screen if the messaging app that you are using is crashing. Like any other android devices the Galaxy Note 4 is also experiencing this type of issue and lots of users were complaining about this problem. So, in this post, we will discuss this issue and consider all possibilities why this error message appears on your phone screen. Mostly, this is just a minor a problem and it can be fixed through basic troubleshooting procedures. Here are the methods we suggest you to perform:
Step 1: Delete the App's Cache and Data
More often than not, one of the reasons that the error message appears on the screen is when the Messaging app's cache and data had been outdated. So, to eliminate that suspicion we will try to delete all old caches and data so that newer ones will be created and could run perfectly if you have to launch again the app.
- From the Home screen, tap Apps icon.
- Tap Settings and scroll to Applications section.
- Tap Application manager.
- Swipe left to right to display contents of All tab.
- Scroll to and tap the desire app.
- Tap Clear Cache button.
- Tap Clear data button.
- Tap Ok.
After clearing the cache and data, try to launch again your Messaging app and see if the issue will persist. If so, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Clear the System Cache partition
This method, is similar to the first step you performed on your phone the only difference is that we have to delete the overall files and data of the device. So,if corrupted system caches caused the error message to appear,then, this method will fix it. Here's how:
- Turn off the device completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up key, Home key and Power key at the same time.
- When the Note 4 vibrates, release both Home and Power keys but continue to press and hold the Power key.
- When the 'Android system recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
- Using the Volume Down key highlight 'wipe cache partition' and press the Power key to select it.
- When the wiping the cache partition is finished, highlight 'reboot system now' and hit the Power key.
If performing this step is successful and the issue is not anymore happening, it is evident that corrupted files and data triggered the problem. However, if clearing the cache partition is not helping, jump over to the next step.
Step 3: Bring your phone back to its Factory default
Since, all previous methods didn't resolve the issue the last thing that you should do is to do the reset. Meaning, you have to bring your phone back to its default settings by deleting all your personal files and data stored in the internal storage including those third-party apps you have installed. So, before you have to follow the method, be sure to transfer everything to your SD card or personal computer. This is how you reset your Galaxy Note 4:
- Turn off your Galaxy Note 4.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home key and Power key but continue holding the Volume Up key.
- When the Android system recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight 'wipe data/factory reset' and press the Power key to select it.
- Now highlight 'Yes - delete all user data' using the Volume Down key and press the Power key to begin the reset.
- When the master reset is complete, highlight 'Reboot system now' and hit the Power key.
- The Note 4 will restart but it will be longer than usual. When it reaches the Home screen, then begin your setup.
