One of the common problems that Samsung users were always complaining is the battery drain issue. Usually, one of the reasons that the battery drains faster it is because of so many apps running in the system and eating the power. On the other hand, if the battery is malfunctioning or defective that would be another factor to consider that the battery drains faster. So, in this post we will consider all possibilities by ruling-out each and every one of them so that we can determine and resolve the problem.
Step 1: Perform Battery-pull procedure
The purpose of doing this method on your phone is to verify if a glitch in the system is not causing the issue. This will refresh the memory of the device and closes all running apps in the background that might eating most of the power. After you remove the battery, try to press the Power key for 15 seconds to make sure that all electricity stored in the hardware components will be released. However, after you do so and the issue still persists, jump over to the next method.
Step 2:Try to turn on the Power Saving mode
As you know that the Galaxy S4 is full of features, so, if all of it were running in the system simultaneously that would be the reason that the battery easily get emptied. So, to enable the Power saving mode, just go to Settings> My device> Power saving mode. After you enable this mode, the device will limit the battery consumption to all features running on your phone. However, if the battery still drains fast after activating the Power saving mode, then the files and data of the device might be corrupted during the update, you can follow the next step.
Step 3: Check the apps running in the background and close those unnecessary ones
Sometimes, if there are tons and heavy apps running in the system that would be one of the reasons that the battery is draining fast. So, now, we will have to figure it out what are the applications on your phone and eating the battery most.
- From Home screen, touch and hold Home key.
- Now the applications running in the system will show up in the screen.
- Swipe left or right over an app, tap the X icon to close the app.
- Tap close all icon to close all running applications.
- To view the running applications, tap the Active applications icon.
After closing some of the apps running on your phone, try to use again your phone and observe if the issue persist. If so, proceed to the next step.
Step 4: Wipe the System Cache Partition
Since, the system has been updated there is a chance that the files and data of the phone had been ruined during the process and caused the issue. So, what we have to do now is to delete all caches in the directory to be sure that all old files will be replaced by newer ones and compatible to the new system. Although there is no assurance if the issue will be fixed after the step, but there were reports from other users saying that after clearing the cache partition the device back to its normal performance. Here's how to clear the cache partition:
- Turn the phone off completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
- Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue holding on to the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- When the Android system recovery appears, release both the Home and Volume Up buttons.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
- Press the Power button to select the option.
- The phone will automatically restart once the cache data are wiped out.
However, if all steps you performed failed to resolve the problem, then you don't have a choice but to reset your phone. Remember, this method will delete all your saved files and data in the internal storage, so, before you proceed to the steps be sure you created a backup for everything so that you can easily restore all of it once the issue is resolved.
- Switch off your Galaxy S4.
- Hold down the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds. Release them when the Android logo appears on the screen. This will bring up the unlock/ reset menu.
- To navigate through this menu, use the Volume Up/ Down buttons to scroll up and down and the power button to confirm selections.
- Scroll down and select Wipe data/ Factory reset.
- Scroll down and select Yes- Delete All User Data.
- When prompted, scroll to and select all Reboot System Now. The phone will then reboot to its factory settings.
Step 6: Bring your phone to the tech
