Hello android community! In this post, I'll tackle one of the issues sent to us by our Galaxy S5 user complaining about its device that's experiencing lags and delays in opening an app. If the issue started after the update, then, there is a huge possibility that corrupted or outdated files and data triggered it or the firmware itself was ruined during the process that resulted the issue to occur. On the other hand, if the device has physical defects or had been dropped, then, we suggest you to immediately bring it to the tech for your phone might have a hardware problem. So, to isolate this problem the best thing that you can do is isolate it through performing the basic troubleshooting procedures until the issue is fixed. That being said, here are the methods that you can do:
Step 1: Boot your Galaxy S5 in Safe Mode
Assuming that the issue started to occur after the update, so, the best thing that you can do is to boot it in safe mode. Meaning, we have to eliminate the suspicion that a culprit triggered the problem by disabling all third-party apps temporarily and only the pre-installed ones left running in the system. So, if your Galaxy S5 function normally while in this mode, then obviously there's an app you need to uninstall to resolve the issue. Here's how to boot in Safe mode:
- Turn off your Galaxy S5.
- Press and hold the Power button.
- Once the 'Samsung Galaxy S5' logo appears, release the Power button and but continue to press and immediately pressa and hold the Volume Down button.
- Continue holding and pressing the Volume Down button until the phone finishes restarting.
- Once you see the text 'Safe Mode' at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button.
But while in this mode and your phone still lags and experiencing delays in opening an app, then move over to the next step.
Step 2: Delete the System Cache Partition
Since, update has been made there is a possibility that corrupted or outdated caches triggered the issue to occur. So, this time, we suggest you to perform the so-called deleting the system cache partition. In other words, we have to wiped out all files and data saved in the phone directory so that newer ones will be created and could run smoothly to the new system. Don't you worry, this method is safe and all your saved files on your phone will remain intact after you do this method. Here's how:
- Turn off your device.
- Press and hold the Home, Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time.
- When Samsung Galaxy S5 appears on the screen, release the Power button but continue to press and hold the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- When the android logo shows, release the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- Using the Volume Down button highlight ' wipe cache partition.'
- Press the Power button select it.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot System now' is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Step 3: Perform Master reset
Remember, performing a reset on your phone should be the last resort that you can do if all procedures failed to fix the problem. Unlike on previous methods, this one is more complicated because you need to create a backup first because all of it will be deleted once you proceed to this method. But the good thing is, if this a software-related problem triggered the problem, then, this step has a big chance to resolve it. Follow these steps:
- Turn off your Galaxy S5.
- Press and hold the Power, Home and Volume Up buttons at the same time.
- When the device powers on and displays 'Power on logo' release all keys and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, 'wipe data/ factory reset' and press the Power key to select it.
- Press the Volume Down button again until the option 'Yes-delete all user data' is highlighted and then press the Power button to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight 'Reboot System Now' and hit the Power button to restart the device.
