In this troubleshooting guide, we will be discussing one of the issues we received recently from one of the Samsung Galaxy S4 users saying that their phone can no longer receive calls right after updating the system. Since, the problem occurred after the update, there is a chance that a glitch in the system triggered it. In this case, the best thing that you can do is to figure it out all possibilities that might causing this issue by performing the step by step procedure until you can come out to the solution and resolve the problem.
Here are the methods that we suggest you to do on your Galaxy S4
Step 1: Check if you are getting a good coverage
One of the factors to consider that you're unable to receive calls if the device is not getting a good signal. So, before you proceed and do the other methods it's necessary that you have to verify if your Galaxy S4 is getting a good coverage in your area. You can check it above the screen and see if the signal bars appears. If not, then, that would be the reason you're not receiving calls, you can restart your phone and wait if the signal bars will appear. If it is, try to make a call using your other phone if you have one to check if the device is already capable of receiving calls.
However, if you're already having a good coverage and the issue still persist, you can contact your service provider about it for there might be an outage in your area.
Step 2:Verify if the Airplane mode is disable
If you accidentally enabled this mode that may be the reason that you are not receiving any calls from other numbers. Because if this mode is turned on, all sending and receiving wireless communication will be blocked. Disable it and try to make a call again. Follow these steps to disable it:
- From Home screen, press and hold the Power button.
- Tap Airplane mode, then tap OK.
- Now, the Airplane mode is disabled/enabled.
However, after the step and your still unable to receive calls, proceed to the next method.
Step 3: Wipe the System Cache Partition
Since, the system has been updated there is a possibility that some of the caches were corrupted during the process and that may be the reason that the issue is happening. Although there is no assurance that after you do the method the problem will be fixed. But there were reports from other users saying that after clearing the system cache partition the device is already functioning normally. So, this time we have to delete its cache partition so that newer ones will be created. To do so, follow these steps:
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
- Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue holding on to the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- When the Android System Recovery appears, release both the Home and Volume Up buttons.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight 'wipe cache partiiton'.
- Press the Power button to select the option.
- The phone will automatically restart once cache data are wiped out.
Step 4: Perform Factory reset
After all the procedures that you performed and still the device is unable to receive calls, then, your last resort is to do a reset. Meaning, you have to bring your device to its factory default to remove all malware and bugs that might causing the problem. But before you follow the steps, make sure to create first a backup because it will be deleted once you proceed. Here's how you do the reset:
- Turn off the phone completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
- Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue holding on to the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release both the Home and Volume Up buttons.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight 'wipe data/factory reset.'
- Press the Power button to select it.
- Using the Volume Down button again, highlight 'delete all user data.'
- Press the Power key to select it.
- Once the reset is complete, choose 'Reboot System now.'
- Press the Power button to restart the phone.
