Effective solutions to do if apps on your Galaxy S5 keeps crashing [troubleshooting guide]

If you've been using your Samsung Galaxy S5 for some time now, it's highly likely that one of your apps had, one way or another, stopped working or crashed on you. While some may experience the problem randomly, others may find it find quite common in their digital life. If you are looking for effective solutions to fix this issue, keep reading!

An important thing to know about apps is the fact it's a product that requires regular care from its developers. Most users may not realize this but an app crashing on one device may not necessarily have the same reason when it crashes on another phone. There are a few things that we need to consider if we want to determine what is the specific reason why certain apps in our phone crash, freeze, or stop working.

Considerations

Popular and profitable apps tend to be well maintained because developers have the motivation to keep their product in top shape. Let's face it, a huge number of app developers build their products for profits. If their venture turns out to be unrewarding, whether in terms of number of users or monetary returns, they may simply leave their app to wither. This happens a lot. In fact, there are thousands of apps in Google Play Store that no longer receives updates from developers for years. If you happen to install one of these un-updated apps, there's a big chance that it will start showing problems sooner or later.

Solutions

We always recommend that you invest time and effort in picking your apps, especially if you are trying to get one from unheard of or little-known developers. Reading reviews for an app may seem mundane but it's a very good tool to use in deciding whether or not to install an app. If you find a lot of previous users who installed it ranting or giving negative impressions, you should think twice before installing the said app.

If you have already installed an app and it keeps on crashing, uninstalling it may be your best bet. However, if you don't want to remove an app and try to resolve the issue first, you can follow these solutions:

Uninstall app updates

Periodic updates are aimed at fixing known bugs, preventing anticipated glitches, changing/adding app features and user interface, or enhancing user experience. In some rare cases though, new updates are the cause of problems themselves. If you experience an issue after installing an app update, uninstalling it is often the most effective solution. To uninstall an app update, just follow these steps:
  • Go to Settings
  • Tap Applications
  • Select Manage Applications.
  • Tap the All tab.
  • Tap the name of the app in question.
  • Tap Uninstall updates button.

Clear the S5's cache partition

In order to load apps efficiently, your S5 stores app-related information in a special section in the internal memory called cache partition so they can be accessed faster without generating them again every time. Sometimes, the stored cache can get outdated resulting to slow loading time, freezing, or crashing. The best way to prevent this from happening is to ensure that the phone uses up-to-date cache all the time. This is a least known Android maintenance tip and only a few users actually do them regularly. Doing this is also an effective solution for app-related problems so we recommend that delete the cache partition right away when noticing the initial signs of an app trouble. This is a safe procedure to do as this won't delete any of the personal data stored in your phone.

The steps are provided in this post.

Contact app developer

Uninstalling updates and deleting the cache partition are only effective if the reason for the app problem is on your phone. However, if the problem is code- or programming-related, which means they are the developer's fault, your only chance of resolving it is by letting the app makers know. There are two ways to do this: one is by contacting the developers directly, or by posting a review for the app. Proactive developers regularly monitor reviews of their product in Google Play Store so if you're lucky, you may be able to communicate your specific problem to them that way.
