Step 1: Perform Soft-reset
This method is called by many as battery-pull procedure, in which its main purpose is to refresh the memory of the phone and close all running applications in the background that might causing the device to heat up. So, after you remove the battery, press the Power button of your Galaxy Note 4 to release the electricity stored in the hardware components. After you do so, use again your phone and see if it is still slowing down and heating up, if so, proceed to the next step.
Step 2: Check what are the apps running in the background

Step 3: Reboot your phone in Safe mode

So, if your phone's performance is normal while in this mode, then obviously there's a culprit you need to find and uninstall it. This is how you boot in safe mode:
- Turn off the phone completely.
- Press and hold the Power key and the Volume Down key.
- When the phone starts to boot, release the Power key but continue holding the Volume Down until the phone finished restarting.
- Safe mode will be display at the lower left corner; you may release the Volume Down key now.
But if booting in safe mode won't resolve the problem, then perform the next step.
Step 4: Wipe the System Cache Partition
The system cache partition is a directory where the files and data saved to make the device run faster and smoother when you have to use it. So,if these files and data had been ruined during the update process that could be one of the reasons that your phone is heating and become very slow. In this case, we will have to delete all caches stored in the directory so that newer ones will be created. Here's how:
- Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
- When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, 'wipe cache partition' and press the Power key to select it.
- When the wiping of the cache partition is finished, highlight 'Reboot system now' and hit the power key.
However, after clearing the system cache partition and the issue still the same, then you don't have choice but to do a reset. This method is very effective especially if your device is suffering from a serious software-related issue. But before doing so, be sure that you create a backup for all your files and data because all will be deleted.
- Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
- Press and hold the Volume Up and Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
- When the Note 4 vibrates, release the both Home and Power keys together but continue holding the Volume Up key.
- When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
- Using the Volume Down key, highlight 'wipe data / factory reset' and press the Power key to select it.
- Now, highlight Yes- delete all user data' using the Volume Down key and press the Power key to begin the reset.
- When the Master reset is complete, highlight 'Reboot system now' and hit the Power key.
- The Note 4 will restart but it will be longer than usual. When it reaches the Home screen, then begin your setup.
