Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy Note 4 slowing down after system update

If the device is slowing down after the update, it is possible that the firmware was bugged or corrupted during the process that resulted the device to slow down and overheats without apparent reason. Additionally, if tons of apps running in the background that would be one of the reasons to consider as well that your phone is experiencing these issues. So, in this troubleshooting guide we have to tackle these problems by ruling out all possibilities until we can come up to the solution and resolve the issues.

This is how to troubleshoot Samsung Galaxy Note 4 slowing down after system update

Step 1: Perform Soft-reset
This method is called by many as battery-pull procedure, in which its main purpose is to refresh the memory of the phone and close all running applications in the background that might causing the device to heat up. So, after you remove the battery, press the Power button of your Galaxy Note 4 to release the electricity stored in the hardware components. After you do so, use again your phone and see if it is still slowing down and heating up, if so, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Check what are the apps running in the background
Occasionally, if there were tons of heavy apps running simultaneously in the system there is a big chance that the processor will be stressed out and leads the device to heat up. This time, we have to check those running apps running and close some of it to see if the performance will improve after you do so. Here's how to do it:
  1. Launch Settings App and navigate through options to find Applications Manager.
  2. Choose "All" applications tab to display names of apps currently installed in your device.
  3. One by one, choose apps that you want to disabled. Tapping on each one of them will launch a window asking you to "Disable" or "Force stop."
  4. Choose "Disable" to stop apps permanently until you enable them back, or "Force Stop" if you want them to stop running for the time being.
  5. Your Android device will ask you to confirm your action so choose "OK."
After checking all running apps and uninstalling some of it, use your phone again and observe if the issue still happening. If so, jump over to the next method.

Step 3: Reboot your phone in Safe mode
In this diagnostic state, we have to figure it out if a culprit is causing the issue on your phone. This method won't fix the issue, instead, it will just give you hint if a culprit triggered the issue. So, if your phone's performance is normal while in this mode, then obviously there's a culprit you need to find and uninstall it. This is how you boot in safe mode:

  1. Turn off the phone completely.
  2. Press and hold the Power key and the Volume Down key.
  3. When the phone starts to boot, release the Power key but continue holding the Volume Down until the phone finished restarting.
  4. Safe mode will be display at the lower left corner; you may release the Volume Down key now.
But if booting in safe mode won't resolve the problem, then perform the next step.

Step 4: Wipe the System Cache Partition
The system cache partition is a directory where the files and data saved to make the device run faster and smoother when you have to use it. So,if these files and data had been ruined during the update process that could be one of the reasons that your phone is heating and become very slow. In this case, we will have to delete all caches stored in the directory so that newer ones will be created. Here's how:
  1. Turn off the Galaxy Note 4 completely.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up and the Home keys together, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Note 4 vibrates, release both the Home and Power keys but continue holding the Volume Up key.
  4. When the Android System Recovery shows on the screen, release the Volume Up key.
  5. Using the Volume Down key, highlight the option, 'wipe cache partition' and press the Power key to select it.
  6. When the wiping of the cache partition is finished, highlight 'Reboot system now' and hit the power key.
Step 5: Perform Master reset on your phone
However, after clearing the system cache partition and the issue still the same, then you don't have choice but to do a reset. This method is very effective especially if your device is suffering from a serious software-related issue. But before doing so, be sure that you create a backup for all your files and data because all will be deleted.
