Hello readers! In this post, I'll discuss an issue sent to us by one of the Galaxy S5 users complaining about the device that keeps on shutting down after system update. More often than not, this problem is caused by outdated cache and data, third-party apps or the battery of the phone is defective that resulted the device to shuts down without apparent reason. But since, it's too early to create a conclusion the best thing that you should do is to figure it out all possibilities first by doing a step by step procedure on your device until you can resolve the issue. Here's how:
Step 1: Charge your Phone
Sometimes, if the battery is faulty there is a big chance that your device would shut down due to shortage of power supplied to the hardware components. So, this time, all you need to do is to eliminate that suspicion by charging your phone for at least 20-30 minutes. When the time elapsed, try to use your device and see if the issue still persists. If so, move over to the next step.
Step 2: Boot in Safe Mode
In this mode, we have to disable all third-party apps and let the built-in apps run in the system to know if a culprit caused the issue. But take note, this method won't resolve the problem, instead, it will just give you hint if one of the apps you installed from Play Store triggered it.
- Turn the device off.
- Press and hold the Power key.
- When 'Samsung Galaxy S5' appears on the screen, release the Power key.
- Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume Down key.
- Continue to hold the Volume Down key until the device finishes restarting.
- Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
- Release the Volume Down key when you see Safe mode.
But if your device continue to shuts down even in Safe mode, then, there may be other factors triggered it, proceed to the next method.
Step 3:Wipe the System Cache Partition
Since, the firmware has been updated there is a possibility that corrupted or outdated caches in the directory is one of the reasons that this issue is happening. In this instance, we suggest you to perform the so-called wiping the cache partition. Doing this, will reset the cache directory of the device and newer ones will be created after the method. Don't you worry, all your files and data will be intact after you perform this procedure. Here's how:
- Turn off the device.
- Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
- When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home buttons.
- Press the Volume Down key to highlight the 'wipe cache partition.'
- Press the Power buttons select it.
- When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now is highlighted.
- Press the Power key to restart the device.
Step 4: Master Reset
Remember, performing a reset should be the last method that you should do if all steps above is bot helping the issue. Compared to other methods, this one is more complicated because you need to create first a backup for all your files before you have to follow the steps because your files will be lost once you do so. But the good thing is, if this is just a software problem there is a big chance that the issue will be fixed through resetting.
- Turn off your Samsung Galaxy S5.
- Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
- When the device powers on and displays 'Power on logo', release all buttons and the Android icon will appear on the screen.
- Wait until the Android Recovery Screen appears after about 30 seconds.
- Using the Volume down button, highlight the option, 'wipe data/ factory reset' and press the Power key select it.
- Press the Volume Down button again until the option 'Yes-delete all user data' is highlighted and then press the Power button to select it.
- After the reset is complete, highlight 'Reboot system now' and hit the Power key to restart the phone.
But after you do the reset and your phone still restarts, the last thing that you can do is to bring it to the nearest shop in your area to be check thoroughly by the tech for the firmware might be corrupted and it needs to be reflashed.
