Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy S5 Black Screen of Death (BSoD) issue

Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy S5 Black Screen of Death (BSoD) issue

The Black Screen of Death (BSoD) is one of the rampant issues that android users were always complaining about for several years now. Even though how powerful and elegant your device is there is still a chance that this issue will occur on your phone. So, in this troubleshooting guide we have to discuss the email we received from one of the Samsung Galaxy S5 users saying that the device screen went black and become unresponsive but the blue light above is blinking.

As a matter of fact, there are lots of factors to consider that the device is experiencing the Black Screen of Death (BSoD). It could be a system glitch, an incompatible app that affect the firmware or the phone itself has a hardware problem. So, to be sure what caused it, we need to isolate the issue and consider all possibilities and rule-out each one of them until we can fix resolve the issue.

Here are the troubleshooting steps that you should do

Step 1: Perform Battery-pull procedure
Sometimes, it is because of so many apps running simultaneously there is a chance that the system will be stressed-out and caused it to crash. So, what we recommend you to do now is perform soft reset by removing the battery and press the Power key for 10 seconds to release all stored electricity in the hardware components. After you performed the method put it back the battery and try to power on your phone.

If the device successfully boots up, then a minor glitch is caused the issue. However, if your Galaxy S5 still refused to turned on, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Attempt to boot it in Safe mode
Assuming that the battery is fine and fully charge the next thing that you should do is to restart it in safe mode. This will help you determine if a third-party app prevents the system from booting up through disabling temporarily all downloaded applications in the system. If it turned on while in this mode, it is evident that an app caused it and we suggest you to find that one and uninstall it. Here's how:
  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key.
  3. When 'Samsung Galaxy S5' appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume Down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume Down key until the device finishes restarting.
  6. Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume Down key when you see Safe mode.
Step 3: Boot it in Recovery Mode
Since, the device still won't turn on even in safe mode, so, this time, try to restart it in recovery mode. We have to check if the hardware components are all fine and capable to boot up in this mode. Through recovery mode the hardware components will be powered up without loading its android interface. If your phone turned on in this mode, you can proceed to the next step and wipe the system cache partition. This is how you boot it in recovery mode:
  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons: Volume Up, Home and Power keys.
  3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume up and Home keys.
  4. When the Android System Recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
  8. Press the Power key to restart the device.
However, if booting in recovery mode and clearing the cache partition is not helping the issue, then, it's time for you to seek assistance from the tech for your Galaxy S5 might experiencing hardware problem.
